Here we focus on original pieces that go beyond just using a wall as a canvas, but where artists utilise the ‘urban fabric’ – existing objects and conditions as both inspiration and fundamental parts of their creations.

Traditional product design tends to look at sound as an afterthought in the development process. So we decided to look for examples where sound is not only integral to the product but where it somehow defines the aesthetic and behavior of the design. You can no longer understand one without the other creating a deeper and more engaging solution.
Nick Cave’s SoundSuits, for example, are kind of a mix between the two things he’s always been passionate about: fashion and dancing. His different suits are not only visually stunning, but also make distinctive sounds when you move in them.

SONEL is a concept Netbook created by Lovely&Co for one of the leading fashion houses in Europe. Netbooks are small computers that are always connected to the internet and – at 250mm x 120mm – sit somewhere between a small laptop and a large Smart phone. The concept behind Sonel is to create a luxury Netbook that borrows more from the emotional values and craftsmanship of Haute Couture than from your average high-tech gadget.

These glasses won the prestigious Opus Design Award in 2006. The core components have been reduced to just 3 main parts – a single glass lens and two titanium arms. This creates a compelling visual tension and a very pure appearance drawing the focus to the single lens and giving it a jewel-like quality.

The MOTO375 is a sweet and inexpensive phone. We used some very simple and low cost solutions – like the illuminated icons instead of using an external display or the gradient paint- to increase the perceived value and give its own personality without increasing the cost of the product.
