ALBA

June 30th, 2010

Alba_2

ALBA owes its name to Federico Garcia Lorca’s famous play The House of Bernarda Alba. On the first scene of the first act Bernarda’s house is described; “White room, thick walls, ‘enea’ chair”. The enea (straw) chair was once the de-facto chair in many countries around the world. A simple wooden frame with hand woven straw around the seat and backrest. Summer is coming! Inspired by beautiful colours, patterns as well as the upcoming World Cup, we would like to dedicate this post to influences, trends and projects happening in and around Africa.

Although clay has been used for literally thousands of years, innovation and new production techniques have created a new generation of ceramics; a high-quality material that is light weight, thin and extremely hard wearing. It is so strong that it can even be used in bulletproof body armor. These qualities make it ideal for a lot of new and exciting applications.

brand extension

February 28th, 2010

brand_01c
Fashion houses have been extending their brands outside the intrinsic couture space for a long time now. Their cosmetics and accessories -including watches- are almost a given these days. But when we ran into this guitar by Chanel we were blown away by the shear beauty of the object itself and Chanel’s audacity at exploring the limits of where their brand could go.
So, for our latest blog entry we decided to look at Chanel and other leading fashion houses to see how they are extending their reach to new spaces and demonstrating the power and flexibility of premium lifestyle brands.
